I Wish I Were You

I wish I wish I wish I were you
You’re 17, this much is true:
The days of feeling nothing more
Than an ever-lasting desire for two
Have left me far behind
and stranded
high and dry
across the river
Into the trees and the sticks beyond
The ferryman waiting with his magic wand

Once I swam in a peaceful river
Whenever I think of it I pause
hold my breath
remember the water
And pray I never father a daughter
